Fatal snowmobile accident prompts safety calls in Town of Worth

  • January 4, 2026

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – A fatal snowmobile accident on Thursday has prompted renewed safety calls from local snowmobile club officials and town leaders.

Joseph DiDomenico, 55, of Liverpool, died in the accident that occurred around 1 p.m. in the Town of Worth, according to state police.

Police said DiDomenico was riding with a 16-year-old, also from Liverpool, when he got off his sled. The younger rider then came over a hill and struck DiDomenico after not having enough time to stop.

Police said the 16-year-old showed no signs of impairment.

The accident has left the snowmobiling community shaken.

“Yesterday was an unfortunate day on our trails and very tragic for a family, and it’s something that we hope doesn’t happen again anytime in the near future,” said Albert Siver, a volunteer with the Sno-Pals Snowmobile Club.

Town of Worth Supervisor Richard Kinge said his condolences go out to the family.

“It is a terrible accident that happened,” Kinge said.

Sno-Pals club officials and Town of Worth officials said accidents like these are tragic but can often be prevented.

“Slowing down, being aware of your surroundings, and just expect the unexpected when you’re out there because you just never know what can be coming at you or behind you,” Siver said.

Kinge had a message for snowmobilers who drink while on the trails.

“Slow down. Don’t drink so much at the bar; you’re up here to enjoy the ride. Enjoy the ride,” he said.

Sno-Pals said the amount of snow this week has packed Tug Hill with sleds. They are asking riders to slow down and stay on their side of the trail so everyone can go home and remember their ride.
