STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Joe Lampariello parlayed a 300 game into a tourney-leading 809 series after the first weekend of qualifying in the 50th annual New Year Singles Classic at Rab’s Country Lanes.
Since Lampariello, the 2016 NYSC champ, was the highest in his qualifier, he will receive an automatic berth in the top 24 finals, slated for Jan. 17 at 3 p.m.
The seven other squad leaders were Justin Arenas (791), Sal Maenza (780), six-time NYSC champ George Cretella (759), two-time defending champ Jeff Scire (759), Lampariello’s wife Dawn (758), Anthony Arias (711) and Niokolas Boyd (704)
Like the tourney leader, Mickey Endress and Arenas fired perfect games.
Qualifying continues Saturday and will conclude next Sunday. Squad times are slated for 1 and 2:30 each day.
