STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As expected, the New York Giants have reached out to the Indianapolis Colts to ask permission to speak with Staten Island product Lou Anarumo for Big Blue’s head coaching vacancy, according to profootballtalk.com.

Anarumo is currently under contract by the Colts as the team’s defensive coordinator, but can get out of the deal if another team hires him as a head coach.

Three days ago, SILive.com reported that the Susan Wagner High School and Wagner College product was on the Giants’ initial coaching list. The Giants dismissed head coach Brian Daboll two months ago after three and a half tumultuous seasons.

Anarumo, 59, is familiar with the Giants landscape as he was the team’s defensive backs coach in 2018. He has bounced around the NFL since 2012, but made a name for himself as a defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019-2024, and now with the Colts.

Anarumo also interviewed with current GM Joe Schoen for the Giants head coaching vacancy prior to Daboll getting the job in 2022.

In 2023, Anarumo was a finalist for the Arizona Cardinals’ head coaching job but was passed over.
