VIDEO: Nearly one-hundred people are without a home after a five-alarm fire in the Claremont section of the Bronx.
The American Red Cross told PIX11 News it is assisting 29 households with temporary shelter. That includes 64 adults and 26 children. Three people were injured, including two firefighters.
The fire started around 3:30 a.m. on Monday in a first-floor deli in the building at 1365 Findlay Avenue. It quickly spread to all five floors above the deli.
Ingrid Cobb, who lives nearby, said, “Around six o’clock, I can see the smoke coming out of my window. I come out to take my daughter to school, and I can see the whole building is gone.”
The FDNY said three fire hydrants near the building were blocked by illegally parked cars. In a post on X, the FDNY wrote, “This could have been deadly. We remind New Yorkers that parking on fire hydrants is DANGEROUS and ILLEGAL. DON’T DO IT.”
