Gamblers think that Vice President JD Vance is suddenly losing support from a key figure for his expected 2028 run for the presidency.
On the Polymarket legal betting site, bettors are wagering that there’s just a 14% chance that President Donald Trump will endorse Vance for president before 2027.
That’s in stark contrast to the wagering as recently as Dec. 22, 2025, when gamblers said that there was an overwhelming 45% chance that Trump would give his loyal veep the nod before next year.
The numbers for a Trump endorsement of Vance began cratering days later.
The news comes as it’s been reported that the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is showing some increasing polling strength when it comes to the 2028 Republican Party nomination for president.
A McLaughlin & Associates poll in August had Vance at 36% support, with Trump Jr. far behind at 16%.
But that gap narrowed in a survey in October, with Vance at 38% and Trump Jr. at 20%.
A November survey then showed Vance slipping to 34% and Trump Jr. surging to 24%.
Still, polls overall, including in key states like New Hampshire, have long shown Vance to be the favorite candidate to be the GOP nominee for president in 2028.
Those placing bets on the next White House race on legal wagering sites also believe that Vance is far and away the favorite to land the GOP nomination.
The Polymarket site shows that 55% of gamblers believe that Vance will be the GOP nominee for president in three years.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is a distant second on that site, at 13.4%.
President Trump has said that a GOP ticket of Vance and Rubio would be formidable in 2028.
But the president has not formally made an endorsement in the race.
