SUNSET PARK — NYU LANGONE HOSPITAL–BROOKLYN on Wednesday marked the 10-year anniversary of its merger with Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park by bringing in food trucks (including the BK JERK Mobile and a chicken and waffle truck) for staff and patients and handing out goodie bags. Since the merger with the safety-net Lutheran Medical Center, “measurable improvements in quality, safety and access to specialty care” have reshaped patients’ expectations — particularly those facing complex, life-threatening conditions — according to Dr. Bret J. Rudy, executive vice president and chief of hospital operations.

NYU Langone–Brooklyn’s mortality rate is one of the lowest both in Brooklyn and nationwide, despite the fact that more than 80% of discharged patients are insured by Medicaid or Medicare, NYU Langone said. The hospital has received high ratings, including a Leapfrog safety grade of “ Straight A.”
