MTA Starts Environmental Review for New Brooklyn and Queens Train Line

By Y.M. Lowy

The MTA has started the environmental review for the Interborough Express, a new train line that will connect Brooklyn and Queens and make travel between the two boroughs faster and easier.

The review will look closely at how the train line could affect neighborhoods, traffic, and the environment.

To start the process, the MTA will hold three public meetings to share details and hear from residents. The first meeting is set for Wednesday, October 29, at Brooklyn College. The second will take place Thursday, November 6, at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, Queens, followed by a virtual meeting on Wednesday, November 12.

The Interborough Express will use a 14-mile stretch of existing freight rail to connect the two boroughs, offering a 32-minute ride from end to end. When complete, it will link nearly 900,000 people to subways, buses, and the Long Island Rail Road.
