RIVERDALE, NY – In pursuit of its fourth straight victory, the Manhattan Jaspers Men’s Basketball team (7-10, 3-3 MAAC) suffered a setback against the Golden Griffins of Canisius University (8-8, 3-2 MAAC) by a score of 70-64 inside Draddy Gymnasium on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After falling behind with back-to-back Golden Griffin baskets, junior guard Jaden Winston put the Jaspers on the board with an opening triple.
Both teams continued to trade baskets with Winston and Anthony Isaac grabbing his first two points to pull within one of the Griffins.
The Green and White began to pull away after freshman guard Quron Elliott made his first appearance in the contest and put his team in front on a perfect feed from Devin Dinkins in the lane.
Following Dinkins’ step-back, it was graduate guard Terrance Jones to give the Jaspers its largest lead of the night off a pull-up jumper nine minutes into the game.
With six and a half minutes left, off a Canisius turnover, it was Isaac who powered his way to the basket for two points and one potential basket after, which turned successful.
Canisius’s back-to-back baskets brought the Jaspers’ lead to two possessions, before Dinkins sank home a step-back triple before Manhattan called a timeout.
Out of the timeout, the Golden Griffins caught fire to string together three straight baskets, before the Jaspers were able to stop the bleeding courtesy of Roxburgh down the stretch of the first half.
Into the second half went Jones, who opened the stanza with a three-pointer.
Four minutes in, the Griffins tied the game at 37, before going ahead and taking a strangle-hold of the game.
Putting the Jaspers back in front was Isaac again eight minutes in after Jones found the junior forward on the backdoor.
After trailing with 11 minutes remaining, it was Roxburgh who hit another clutch three in a timely moment in the game to put Manhattan ahead once more.
Powering a comeback was Winston, who put together five straight points of his own with five minutes remaining, highlighted by a floating jump shot and a Canisius foul on the backend, to convert the three-point play.
The Griffins would use its three-point success to power its way to victory down the stretch and not allow the Jaspers another comeback attempt to gain any momentum.
