STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Joe Lampariello’s 809 series held up following the last qualifier Sunday in Jim Elliott’s 50th annual New Year Singles Classic at Rab’s Country Lanes.
Lampariello, who rolled his pinfall last week, will lead the field of 24 finalists into Saturday’s 3 p.m. finals.
Lampariello will be joined in the finals by his son, Rob, who finished second in qualifying with a 794 set and wife, Dawn, who also won a squad with a 758 pinfall.
Two-time defending champion Jeff Scire cracked the top 24 as did six-time champ George Cretella. Both shot 759 to win their respective squads.
A handful of other previous champs are also in the finals field, making it one of the most competitive in recent memory.
