Annual Presidents Day Essay Contest opens in 11th District

SOUTHWESTERN BROOKLYN — CONGRESSMEMBER NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS, R-11, launched her annual Presidents’ Day Essay Contest, which is open to elementary school students who live or attend school within her district. The contest invites third-, fourth- and fifth-graders to share their ideas on how they would improve their community and country as president of the United States.

Essays must stay within a 400-word count and can be submitted by email as an attached Word Document or PDF to [email protected] on or before Friday, Feb. 27. Each entry must include the student’s first and last names, school, grade, class, along with their parent or guardian’s name and contact information. Winners will receive a certificate of recognition, a gift card to a local bookstore and invitation to a pizza party where they will have the opportunity to discuss their ideas with Malliotakis.

“In years past, students have focused on everything from public safety and litter to homelessness and animal welfare,” said Malliotakis, who points out that the essay contest is “an opportunity for local students to engage in civics and share their ideas.”
