ALBANY, N.Y. (WKTV) — Gov. Kathy Hochul is preparing to deliver her fifth State of the State address Tuesday afternoon.

The address, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., will cover initiatives such as eliminating ghost guns, improving access to child care for parents statewide and protecting children from online predators.

Yesterday, the governor previewed her proposals for keeping teens safe online.

Hochul introduced “The Safer Kids Act,” which mandates that social media, messaging and gaming companies set the highest privacy settings for users under 18 by default.

Parents would have control over their children’s online interactions.

The proposal also intends to disable certain AI chatbot features that the governor believes could harm children’s mental health.

She mentioned that the State has invested more than $2 billion in mental health.
