The New York Giants haven’t had a winning record since 2022, when Brian Daboll was in his first season as head coach. Losing far more games than they won in the next three seasons made the decision to move on from coach Daboll an easy one in New York. Now, Joe Schoen, the general manager who hired Daboll, has to find someone who can do better.

Yet, the Giants are seemingly ready to go all-in on their pursuit of the coaching candidate they want most. Even if it means throwing a lot of money into the pot.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, “rumors are swirling” of the Giants already making an “unofficial offer in the range of $20 million per year” to former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. That would make him one of the NFL’s highest-paid head coaches in league history.

Meanwhile, Giants senior player personnel executive Chris Mara has already had an “informal lunch meeting” at Harbaugh’s house. That could put the Giants near the top of Harbaugh’s pecking order, but a $20 million salary can’t hurt either.

Widely regarded as the top coaching candidate on the market, any team that hires Harbaugh will be viewed as an offseason winner. A former Super Bowl winner with a Hall of Fame résumé, he may be worth every penny, and the Giants appear intent on finding out.

Yet, they’re not the only ones in this race. Every other team with a head coaching vacancy (seven, excluding the Ravens) has already reached out to Harbaugh’s camp. He’s expected to begin lining up in-person interviews later this week.
