Nationwide mobile service outage reported"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Verizon customers experienced a mobile service outage across the nation on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>More than 180,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/verizon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">unconfirmed reports were made to Downdetector<\/a>, peaking in the early afternoon. The <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/verizon\/map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">hotspot map<\/a> showed most of the reports coming from New York City, Chicago and Portland, Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verizon.com\/support\/check-network-status\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">network status section<\/a> of the Verizon website appeared to have crashed, as well.<\/p>\n<p>The outage affected voice, text, and data service, but users reported retaining WiFi connections to use apps. <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/verizon-fios\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hundreds of Verizon Fios reports<\/a> were made as well, according to DownDetector.<\/p>\n<p>Many users reported seeing \u201cSOS\u201d in the area of their cellphone screen typically reserved for service bars and 5G icons. Disconnecting and reconnecting via \u201cairplane mode\u201d or restarting devices did not appear to solve the problem.<\/p>\n<p>911 calls should still go through via other networks or satellites.<\/p>\n<p>Customers with an iPhone 14 or newer device can try the Messages via Satellite feature until the outage ends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers,\u201d the company <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VerizonNews\/status\/2011500483072954495\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wrote on social media<\/a>. \u201cOur engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVerizon engineering teams are continuing to address today\u2019s service interruptions,\u201d the company said in <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/VerizonNews\/status\/2011517297572380929\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">an update later Wednesday afternoon<\/a>. \u201cOur teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An estimated time for service to be fully restored was not provided.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/t-mobile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">T-Mobile<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/att\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AT&amp;T<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/us-cellular\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">US Cellular<\/a> customers also reported outages, but in much smaller numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNYC Emergency Management is aware of the situation involving cellphone network outages,\u201d the agency said in a statement. \u201cWe are working closely with our partners at OTI &amp; various utility providers to assess any potential effects on city agencies &amp; essential services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also gathering information and updates from the affected network providers. The cause and scope of the outage are still being investigated.
