Paul Martinka<\/p>\nAn 85-year-old\u00a0retired postal worker\u00a0was repeatedly stabbed inside her Brooklyn home\u00a0\u2014 and police have her unhinged grandson in custody in connection with her death, police and law enforcement sources said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Julia Boomer was found inside the Throop Avenue apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday and rushed to Kings County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.<\/p>\n
Sources said Boomer\u2019s 22-year-old grandson left but returned later and was taken into custody for questioning by detectives from the NYPD\u2019s 79th Precinct.<\/p>\n

The young man,\u00a0whose name was being withheld because he has not been charged, was hospitalized Wednesday, according to sources.<\/p>\n

The elderly woman was stabbed multiple times in the head and torso, the sources said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody\u2019s very shocked,\u201d Boomer\u2019s former son-in-law told The Post on Wednesday. \u201cYou know, a big ball dropped there. They are nice people.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just sad that you make kids, and kids do their own thing.\u00a0It\u2019s sad that today kids are different,\u201d he said. \u201cGod bless her soul.\u201d<\/p>\n
The former son-in-law, who asked not to be identified, said Boomer was retired from the US Postal Service, and that her son was also a postal worker.<\/p>\n
He described her grandson as \u201cvery nice,\u201d and said he\u00a0has a young daughter and an uncle who is an NYPD cop.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s beyond me to find out what was going on there,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know. I cannot say. This is a family problem.\u201d<\/p>\n
Records show that the grandson has\u00a0three open criminal\u00a0cases in\u00a0Brooklyn, all involving a former girlfriend, according to sources.<\/p>\n
In the most recent arrest on Oct.\u00a027, 2025, he was charged with violating an order of protection filed on behalf of the ex, sources said. Before that, he\u2019d been busted for grand larceny after allegedly wiring himself $320 from the woman\u2019s bank account July 20, and he was also accused of yanking a phone from her hand, leading to other charges, court documents and sources said.<\/p>\n
Neighbors were left shocked Wednesday by Boomer\u2019s vicious stabbing.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m past angry \u2014 I\u2019m foaming at the mouth,\u201d local William Crandall said.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m sad. I\u2019m torn out about this.<\/p>\n
\u201cCancer didn\u2019t call her, heart attack didn\u2019t call her, dementia didn\u2019t call her \u2014\u00a0a vicious act by someone that she knew took her away from Bedford-Stuyvesant.\u201d<\/p>\n
