Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s trucks that are covered, with 10 people inside with machine guns just aiming them at everyone on the street.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another person in Tehran said fear has gripped the capital as police and security forces patrol the roads and conduct stops.<\/p>\n<p>The local confirmed that the only reason calm returned to Tehran on Thursday was because of the mass killing of protesters, with <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/14\/world-news\/iran-doctors-exhausted-as-protesters-wounded-killed-by-regime-pile-up-rivers-of-blood\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more than 2,600 people killed<\/a> since the demonstrations began, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no protests anymore because of massive killings. It is the time to attack this brutal regime!\u201d the local said.  <\/p>\n<p>Trump had threatened to take military action against Iran if it continued to kill the protesters.<\/p>\n<p>Families were allegedly warned to pic up the bodies of their slain relatives or else they would be dumped in a mass grave. href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/12\/world-news\/footage-shows-grieving-families-in-iran-wailing-and-desperately-searching-through-rows-of-dead-of-bodies-for-loved-ones\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> recover the bodies of their loved ones<\/a> killed in the demonstrations, with officials allegedly threatening to dump the bodies in a mass grave if relatives don\u2019t claim the corpses soon, one of the sources told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s security forces have been accused of enacting one of its most brutal attacks on dissent in the history of the Islamic Republic, with nearly 17,000 people arrested, according to the HRANA. <\/p>\n<p>Shocking video has since emerged of mass shootings against civilians, along with a brutal raid at the Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ilam, where armed forces wounded patients and medical staffers.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses confirmed that the security forces began firing inside the hospital and deploying tear gas as they searched for people wounded in an earlier protest, with about 11 patients hauled away by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/hospital-attack-highlights-brutality-of-iran-clampdown\/a-75454581\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DW reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew the security agents were coming to arrest the wounded or record their identities,\u201d a nurse, who did not reveal her real name, told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople gathered at the entrance to stop them,\u201d she added. \u201cAt the same time, we were desperately short of blood, so calls for donors went out on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the IRGC [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] and special units prevented donors from reaching us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The siege against the hospital lasted more than 24 hours, with patients, doctors, nurses, and even children suffering injuries due to the violence, according to reports highlighted by human rights organizations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecurity forces allegedly raided the Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ilam, deploying tear gas and beating patients and medical personnel,\u201d the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said in its latest Fact-Finding Mission report.<\/p>\n<p>The full extent of the crackdown against the protesters has yet to be independently verified following a nationwide communications outage in Iran. <\/p>\n<p>The protests and killing of demonstrators were the focus of an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian-American activist Masih Alinejad warned the UN that the Islamic Republic cannot be dealt with normally, likening Tehran to the Islamic State terrorist group.<\/p>\n<p>Alinejad demanded that Tehran\u2019s leader be \u201ctreated like\u201d ISIS or else the killings in Iran will get worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMillions of innocent, unarmed Iranians have been silenced through bullets, mass arrests, imprisonment and a total communications blackout \u2014\u00a0 no internet, no mobile phones and no landlines,\u201d she said in an emotional speech. \u201cIran is in total darkness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exiled activist \u2014 known for her outspoken criticism of the Iranian government and for encouraging women to defy the country\u2019s draconian law forcing them to wear headscarves, or hijabs, or risk imprisonment \u2014 was the target of a regime-ordered hit in July 2022 at her Brooklyn home.<\/p>\n<p>But the Russian
