{"id":10207,"date":"2025-10-21T01:25:25","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T01:25:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/10207\/"},"modified":"2025-10-21T01:25:25","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T01:25:25","slug":"two-candidates-face-off-in-debate-for-brooklyn-council-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/10207\/","title":{"rendered":"Two candidates face off in debate for Brooklyn council seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to the race for mayor, all 51 City Council seats are up for grabs.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most closely watched council races is the contest for District 47 in south Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>The district includes the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge and Coney Island, and portions of Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Gravesend.<\/p>\n<p>Current Councilmember Justin Brannan is term-limited at the end of the year, leaving the seat open.<\/p>\n<p>The two candidates seeking to replace him are Democrat Kayla Santosuosso and Republican George Sarantopoulos.<\/p>\n<p>Santosuosso is a former small business owner who currently serves as chief counsel to Brannan.<\/p>\n<p>Sarantopoulos is the founder of an ATM and credit card processing company.<\/p>\n<p>Early voting for the general election begins on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Tap the video player above to watch the interview.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"In addition to the race for mayor, all 51 City Council seats are up for grabs.
