\u201cIt burns to write this, but: It\u2019s time for Curtis Sliwa to face reality, and admit that the city\u2019s best hope to avoid the disaster of a Zohran Mamdani mayoralty is for him to drop out of the race,\u201d began the Post. \u201cThe simple fact is that the Republican nominee is far back in third place in every poll, with zero chance of winning.\u201d<\/p>\n
It continued<\/a>:<\/p>\n Polls show Andrew Cuomo in spitting distance of Mamdani\u00a0if Sliwa quits the race; if Curtis stays in and Andrew loses by a Sliwa-shaped hole, then he will be blamed.<\/p>\n Plenty of readers will erupt in fury at us, and we get it: No one will confuse this page, or The Post as a whole, for Cuomo fans.<\/p>\n That\u2019s not the issue, either: In a dire situation, we\u2019ve got to deal with the facts as they are, ugly as they are.<\/p>\n After praising Sliwa for having \u201cworked hard\u201d on the campaign trail and dinging him for being \u201can oddball, with a sometimes shady past,\u201d the influential conservative newspaper concluded that \u201cMamdani is poised to win and do major,\u00a0deadly\u00a0damage to the lives of all New Yorkers: He must be stopped.
