Notre Dame Academy, for the third consecutive year, will host its \u201cShowdown in the Swamp\u201d CHOMPetition on Sunday at the College of Staten Island\u2019s Sports and Recreation Center.<\/p>\n

The event, ranging in age from 6 & Under to the high school level, will see 40 teams compete across three sessions.<\/p>\n

Of these teams, 28 of them will feature local Staten Island programs. Moore Catholic will be the lone SI CHSAA school competing while Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Holy Child, St. Charles, St. Clare, SJSTSJN, St. Joseph Hill ES, St. Ann\u2019s and Our Lady Queen of Peace will represent the borough\u2019s CYO programs.<\/p>\n

In addition, NDA will perform both its traditional and gameday routines as exhibitions for the latter two sessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all aware of the atmosphere of CYO competitions, and this affords our schools an opportunity to hone their skills and get some of the nerves out early in their competition season,\u201d said NDA athletic director Nick Senise. \u201cFor our high school teams, it\u2019s a great opportunity to get on the mat before States and Nationals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s any substitute for performing in front of a panel of judges – the more times you can do that, the more feedback you get and the better your routine becomes.\u201d<\/p>\n

In order to enter the competition, all spectators will be required to purchase a ticket through NDA\u2019s Hometown Ticketing Box Office<\/a>. Please note that a separate ticket will be required for each session, with the gym being cleared between each session.<\/p>\n

According to Senise, there are limited tickets available for Sessions I and II with slightly more availability in the third portion of competition. He also emphasized double-checking that tickets are purchased for the correct session, as they will not be cross-honored and refunds\/exchanges are not available.<\/p>\n

Finally, ahead of the competition, Senise highlighted the efforts of NDA\u2019s coaching staff, cheerleaders and their families for their efforts to make the event \u201ca huge success.\u201d He also thanked CSI for hosting the event and E-Squared Entertainment for emceeing and providing the music for the competition.<\/p>\n
