New York City FC today announced that the Club has loaned Defender Mitja\u00a0Ileni\u010d\u00a0to Polish side\u00a0Rak\u00f3w\u00a0Cz\u0119stochowa\u00a0through\u00a0December\u00a02026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Since joining New York City FC in 2023, the Slovenian Defender appeared in 75 matches across three seasons. Ileni\u010d scored three goals, recorded five assists, and logged 4,326 minutes for the \u2018Boys in Blue.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe support Mitja\u2019s desire to return to Europe and\u00a0would like to thank Mitja for all of his contributions to the Club,\u201d said Sporting Director Todd Dunivant.\u00a0\u201cThis move provides us with additional roster flexibility as we continue to build the squad ahead of the 2026 season.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ileni\u010d\u00a0made a significant impact during the 2024 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. In Game 2 of the Round One Best-of-3 series against FC Cincinnati, the Defender recorded an assist in a 2\u20130 victory.\u00a0Ileni\u010d\u00a0then converted the decisive penalty in Game 3 following a scoreless draw, sealing a 6\u20135 shootout\u00a0win\u00a0for the \u2018Boys in Blue,\u2019 which propelled the Club into the Eastern Conference Semifinals. \u00a0<\/p>\n
