{"id":103938,"date":"2026-01-18T13:31:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-18T13:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/103938\/"},"modified":"2026-01-18T13:31:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-18T13:31:08","slug":"attempted-shoplifting-incident-at-staten-island-shoprite-reaches-jury-trial-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/103938\/","title":{"rendered":"Attempted shoplifting incident at Staten Island ShopRite reaches jury trial, conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WVTQEHMA4NA37AHZE4MTELEOZI\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A jury this week found a Staten Island man guilty of attempted retail theft, following an incident last summer when police said he attempted to leave a ShopRite with unpaid charcoal and ice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NULLMWPTXRERHF65GZWFWCTXKQ\">The defendant, Dennis Gambino, 47, of Woodrose Lane in Prince\u2019s Bay, was arrested June 5 in connection with the incident that police said unfolded inside 985 Richmond Ave. in Graniteville. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KQ3UQDXHUZH4NE45UFWLNWIAPU\">Gambino, who is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 22 in Criminal Court, faces up to 90 days in jail. Going into trial, he was facing the possibility of a stiffer sentence, however, the jury acquitted him of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"F6RSM6PWXFB6PBMIAPT4GZWAO4\">Defense attorney Amel Spahija declined to comment on the case. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NDFP2RRINZE4LCCJ2A3HAMH2GY\">Court records show his client has two ongoing cases on Staten Island for charges of aggravated harassment of family, misdemeanor assault and criminal contempt. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2NAD6IT2LFARXCF5WHEPOO5WJQ\">\u201cShamelessly passing all points of sale, the defendant brazenly attempted to steal multiple items of merchandise from a local ShopRite last year,\u201d said District Attorney Michael E.
