MIAMI BEACH, Fla. \u2014 The Guy Behind The Guy Behind The Guy, that\u2019s what we\u2019ll call him.<\/p>\n

For Grant Wilson, the path to college football glory would be a modern 21st Century tale:<\/p>\n

Start at an FCS school.<\/p>\n

Start at a Group of 5 school.<\/p>\n

Start at a Power 4 school.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s had six years of college already, on the brink of two degrees. He\u2019s petitioned the NCAA for a seventh. Curt Cignetti thinks he\u2019ll get it.<\/p>\n

Why wouldn\u2019t Wilson want to extend this joyride, especially at Indiana?<\/p>\n

He knew what he was getting into, even if that initial timeline he charted for himself out of high school didn\u2019t exactly go according to plan.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t know what he would get out of the Hoosiers, whom he said will welcome him back for 2026 as a member of the coaching staff if that eligibility waiver gets denied.<\/p>\n

After all, he\u2019s already had experience coaching one Heisman winner. Why not go for a repeat next season?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s never easy to take a backseat, and it\u2019s even harder to do that when you have already played a lot of football. Here was Wilson, though, committing to Indiana last January, more than a week after the Hoosiers had already landed Fernando Mendoza.<\/p>\n

His mission?<\/p>\n

\u201cThey kind of told me my role was going to be a leader in the quarterback room and to help Fernando be the best that he can be,\u201d Wilson told The Inside Zone. \u201cAnd I was fine with that, because I want to be a coach.
