HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) \u2014 New York State is awarding millions of dollars to communities in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes as part of a major investment in water quality and climate resiliency projects. In our region, Steuben, Tompkins, and Tioga counties will see a share.<\/p>\n
The funding is part of a more than $265 million statewide initiative\u00a0announced by Governor Kathy Hochul.<\/p>\n
In Steuben County, over $800,000 in grants will support new salt storage facilities in the Town of Greenwood and the Village of Savona, along with a stream corridor study in the Village of Wayland. The projects are designed to reduce runoff, protect waterways, and address flooding concerns.<\/p>\n
Tioga County\u00a0is receiving $389,000\u00a0to stabilize sections of Owego Creek and conduct planning studies aimed at reducing erosion and flood risk in the watershed.<\/p>\n
In Tompkins County, the largest local award includes $10 million\u00a0for upgrades to the Ithaca Area Wastewater Treatment Facility. Additional funding will go toward culvert replacements, creek restoration projects, and wastewater improvements throughout the county.<\/p>\n
State officials say the projects will improve water quality, strengthen infrastructure, and help communities better prepare for severe weather, while minimizing costs for local taxpayers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"HORSEHEADS, N.Y.
