SPRINGFIELD, Mass. \u2014 Junior Aaron Vazquez led a balanced attack with 12 points and St. Peter\u2019s built a 20-point halftime lead en route to a 49-42 Panini Hoophall Invitational Bracket K championship game win over Stonington (Conn.) at the HS of Science and Technology on Sunday. <\/p>\n
Nico Parlanti (three treys) and Victor Baez (two treys) added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Eagles, who won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 7-8 overall. Tyler Schoenberg and Ryan Freeman combined for an additional 11 points for St. Peter\u2019s.<\/p>\n
\u201cGreat weekend,\u2019’ said St. Peter\u2019s head coach Ryan Woods, who has watched Parlanti and Baez combined for 23 three-pointers in the Eagles\u2019 last six games. \u201dThe boys continue to improve each day.\u2019’ <\/p>\n
Elijah Cornell scored a game-high 18 points with a pair of treys for the Bears. <\/p>\n
Much like their semifinal win over Ocean Township (N.J.) on Saturday, the Eagles got off to a fast start to grab control of the game early. <\/p>\n
Vazquez scored nine first-quarter points, including a conventional three-point play, while Baez and Schoenberg teamed for another 12 as the Eagles raced to a 21-8 advantage at quarter\u2019s end.<\/p>\n
St. Peter\u2019s didn\u2019t take its foot off the gas pedal in the second as Parlanti tallied five and Ryan Christie came off the bench to bury a trey. The New Brighton school owned a commanding 34-14 advantage at halftime.<\/p>\n
Although the Eagles cooled off offensively in the second half, Parlanti sank his last two threes and Freeman hit a pair of fourth-quarter free throws that helped them maintain their lead.<\/p>\n
St. Peter\u2019s 67, Ocean Township (N.J.) 63<\/p>\n
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. \u2014 Junior Baez scored a career-high 18 points and the Eagles exploded for 25 first-quarter points en route to a Panini Hoophall Invitational Bracket K semifinal win at the HS of Science and Technology on Saturday.<\/p>\n
In addition to Baez, who tied his season high with three three-pointers, Parlanti (three treys) added 15 points while Freeman, Noah Scott and Vazquez teamed for another 18 markers. <\/p>\n
Aidan St. Louis tallied a game-high 28 points (four treys) for Ocean Township, which is from Oakhurst, N.J. The Spartans dropped to 7-7 overall.<\/p>\n
Baez tossed in nine points while Parlanti, Freeman and Vazquez tallied four markers apiece to help Eagles race to a 25-16 lead at the end of the first period.<\/p>\n
Although the Spartans cut SP\u2019s lead to six at halftime, Baez scored six and Parlanti drained his last three as the Eagles carried a 53-43 advantage into the final period and never looked back.<\/p>\n
Beacon 67, CSIM 33<\/p>\n
BROOKLYN, N.Y. \u2014 The Dragons only trailed by a single point at halftime, but an injury to big man Xavier Farley proved costly as they dropped a Noreen Shea Memorial Showcase game at St. Thomas Aquinas.<\/p>\n
Danny O\u2019Connor (11 points, four assists) and Patrick Tucker (eight points, three steals, two charges taken) paced the Dragons, who dropped to 10-9 overall.<\/p>\n
Alex Roy scored a game-high 25 points (6 for 6 FTs) for Beacon (14-3 overall).<\/p>\n
The Dragons were leading 18-14 with three minutes left in the first half when the 6-foot-3 Farley suffered a calf injury, according to CSIM head coach Danny Lee. At the time, Farley had six rebounds and five blocks.<\/p>\n
The junior never returned and although Beacon went on a 9-4 run to end the half, CSIM only trailed 23-22 at intermission.<\/p>\n
