{"id":104871,"date":"2026-01-19T18:00:28","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T18:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/104871\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T18:00:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T18:00:28","slug":"anti-ice-protesters-cross-brooklyn-bridge-in-mlk-day-demonstration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/104871\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-ICE protesters cross Brooklyn Bridge in MLK Day demonstration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dozens of anti-ICE protesters marched across the Brooklyn Bridge in a peaceful demonstration on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/mlk-day-ny-landmarks-illuminated\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Martin Luther King Jr. Day<\/a>\u00a0in New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 people on Monday walked the bridge into Manhattan to support Dr. King&#8217;s legacy while speaking out against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/minneapolis-police-chief-worries-about-escalating-tensions-with-ice-60-minutes-transcript\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ICE enforcement in Minneapolis<\/a> and around the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The march was organized by the Arc of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrators started at Brooklyn&#8217;s Cadman Plaza, where community leaders spoke about the importance of MLK Day as more than just a day off work. They said it&#8217;s a day of reflection on struggles that date back to the 1950s and 60s.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/devlin-12p-vo-bklyn-mlk-wcbsggzv-hi-res-still-00-00-3524.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"devlin-12p-vo-bklyn-mlk-wcbsggzv-hi-res-still-00-00-3524.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Anti-ICE protesters march across the Brooklyn Bridge in a peaceful demonstration on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in New York on Jan. 19, 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                CBS News New York<\/p>\n<p>Rallygoers were outspoken against ICE and frequently shouted the name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/ice-official-marcos-charles-minneapolis-tactics-60-minutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Renee Good<\/a>, the woman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/live-updates\/minneapolis-ice-agent-shooting-protesters-clash-fbi-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shot and killed by an ICE agent<\/a> in Minneapolis just under two weeks ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the rally, the group of more than 100 people marched across the bridge. Chopper 2 was overhead as they cleared the East River and made their way toward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/ice-protests-nyc-minneapolis-shooting-immigration-enforcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Manhattan&#8217;s Foley Square<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. King was known for leading marches, peaceful marches, in the name of humanity, in the name of juxtaposing peace to violence, juxtaposing democracy to tyranny, and that&#8217;s what this march is about today.
