Despite the snow and cold temperatures, the College of Staten Island\u2019s Sports and Recreation Center was on fire Sunday morning and afternoon.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame Academy\u2019s \u201cShowdown in the Swamp\u201d CHOMPetition, which saw 32 teams compete along with two Gator exhibitions, was packed out as many squads debuted for the first time this season. <\/p>\n

And, when all was said and done, 13 Staten Island teams took home first place while one group performed as exhibition. While only one SI high school competed, the elementary teams gave a sneak peek of how tight the CYO championships will be in March as St. Charles, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Holy Child and Blessed Sacrament earned top honors in the Varsity and JV divisions.<\/p>\n

Finally, while a few out-of-borough teams had to drop out due to the weather, representatives from Brooklyn and Queens had a strong showing on the floor.<\/p>\n
