The Lakeshore Chess Club, one of Montreal\u2019s most historic community institutions, has officially launched its Winter 2026 season at a brand-new location in the Jardins Shopping Centre Dorval. Founded by local Second World War veterans, the club has long been a hub for chess enthusiasts of all ages across the West Island.<\/p>\n
The move was celebrated with a lively Open House on January 17, where children made their first checkmates, parents tried blitz chess for the first time, and the hall rang with laughter and excitement. The club now offers a full range of programs, including lessons, open play sessions, youth initiatives, and rated tournaments for players aged five to 95.<\/p>\n
Club director, FIDE Master and former Olympian Penka Apostolova, said, \u201cChess is for everyone \u2014 and the magic isn\u2019t just on the board.\u201d Apostolova personally teaches and mentors young players, helping them build confidence, focus, and creativity. \u201cFamilies connect. And in our new location, we finally have the perfect space to keep growing this amazing community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Jardins Dorval facility provides spacious play areas, a safe and accessible mall environment, group lessons for all ages, open practice sessions, and rated youth tournaments and family events. Programs are designed to be beginner-friendly, ensuring that children and adults alike can enjoy the game regardless of experience.<\/p>\n
