\n\tDavid Beckham<\/a> has spoken out about the dangers of social media after his son Brooklyn shared a lengthy statement on Instagram accusing his parents of interfering in his marriage to Nicola Peltz.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a Tuesday (Jan. 20) appearance on CNBC\u2019s Squawk Box<\/a>, the soccer legend remained diplomatic and refrained from directly addressing Brooklyn\u2019s statement the day prior. In a series of posts on his Story, the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham<\/a> had alleged that his parents had been \u201ctrying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding\u201d and value \u201cpublic promotion and endorsements above all else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tInstead, David broached the subject of social media more generally by saying, \u201cI have always spoken about social media and the power of social media, for the good and for the bad. It can be dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat I have found personally, especially with my kids, as well: Use it for the right reasons,\u201d he continued, noting that he takes pride in using his platform to support humanitarian organization UNICEF. \u201cThey make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well,\u201d the former athlete added.<\/p>\n

\n\tDavid shares four children with the Spice Girls alum, welcoming sons Romeo and Cruz and daughter Harper in the years after the couple first became parents with the birth of Brooklyn in 1999. The latter married Peltz, an actress and the daughter of billionaire Nelson Peltz, in 2022.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Monday (Jan. 19), after weeks of a rumored rift within the Beckham family, Brooklyn wrote on his Story that, because his \u201cparents and their team have continued to go to the press,\u201d he felt he had \u201cno choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBrooklyn went on to allege that David and Victoria had \u201ccontrolled narratives in the press about our family\u201d for his entire life, through \u201cperformative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships.\u201d He also accused his mother of promising to design Nicola\u2019s wedding dress before canceling last minute and of \u201crepeatedly\u201d inviting women from his past into their lives, as well as claimed that Victoria had danced \u201cinappropriately on [him] in front of everyone\u201d when Brooklyn was supposed to be having a \u201cromantic dance\u201d with his new wife.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI do not want to reconcile with my family,\u201d he stated. \u201cI\u2019m not being controlled, I\u2019m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBillboard has reached out to David and Victoria Beckham\u2019s reps for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tBrooklyn\u2019s claims have been circulating widely online in the past 24 hours, building on speculation from late last year. Fans previously noticed in December that David and Victoria had appeared to unfollow their eldest child on Instagram, after which Cruz clarified<\/a> on his Story, \u201cMy mum and dad would never unfollow their son.. Let\u2019s get the facts right. They woke up blocked\u2026 as did I.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTogether, David and Victoria have built one of the most prominent families in the entertainment business. The former boasts six Premier League titles, two FA Cup victories and one Champions League honor, while the latter is the owner of eponymous fashion and beauty labels. As part of the Spice Girls, she scored eight Billboard Hot 100<\/a> hits \u2014 including four-week chart-topper \u201cWannabe\u201d \u2014 and four Billboard 200<\/a> entries.<\/p>\n
