Thousands of workers left work early<\/a> Tuesday in New York City and across the nation to protest<\/a> the one-year anniversary of President Trump\u2019s second inauguration amid simmering anger over ICE and the president\u2019s efforts to take control of Greenland,<\/a><\/p>\n

On a frigid afternoon, protestors <\/a>turned out wearing red, white and blue in various locations, including<\/a> Central Park, Prospect Park, Washington Square Park and Trump Tower in Midtown. There were a projected 800 events associated with the movement slated nationwide.<\/p>\n

Roughly 200 protesters gathered in the numbing cold across the street from Trump Tower on Fifth Ave. in Manhattan. At one point the crowd sang, \u201cThis Land Is Your Land,\u201d the Woody Guthrie ballad, in unison. They also chanted, \u201cNo more ICE!\u201d<\/p>\n

Leo, 38, who works in real estate, said he walked out of his Midtown office to be a part of the movement. He held a sign that read, \u201cNEVER FORGET_ STAND WITH NATO\u201d and \u201cDon\u2019t Tread on the US Constitution,\u201d on the front and back.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Trump is destroying America\u2019s standing in the world stage,\u201d he said when asked what compelled him to leave work to demonstrate. \u201cI think we\u2019re forgetting about the fact that NATO stood by us after 9\/11 and now he\u2019s threatening Greenland with invasion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not OK with what ICE is doing to anybody, the way they\u2019re treating people inhumanely, and especially the fact that they\u2019re doing this indiscriminately based on appearances, accents. That\u2019s the complete opposite of what America stands for, in my opinion,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m not OK with this. I have to be here, (to) say something.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mili, 15, of Brooklyn, was in the crowd with several friends who walked out of The Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School in Greenwich Village and Soho to attend the rally.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat bothers me is how horrible it is that he\u2019s taking innocent people,\u201d she said of the president and ICE. \u201cHe\u2019s taking people at school pickup. He\u2019s splitting up families, ruining there lives. And taking them places they\u2019re not even from.\u201d<\/p>\n

Protester Lisa, 62, is a Manhattan actress originally from Minnesota who has family in Minneapolis, where local resident Renee Good was shot to death by an ICE agent on Jan. 7, sparking further protests in that city and nationwide.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy 93-year-old mother is there. She\u2019s terrified,\u201d Lisa said. \u201cI think what\u2019s happening in our country has to stop and\u2026I am frightened for all of my family in Minnesota.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her cousins in Minneapolis have been volunteering through a church to bring people scared to leave their homes groceries and necessities \u2014 but ICE agents have started following them on their delivery routes, Lisa said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery day, another horror show,\u201d said protester Anne Jaffie Holmes, 70, a retired environmental educator who lives in Irvington in Westchester County. She held a sign reading, \u201cGreenland is for Greenlanders.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[Trump\u2019s] latest thing is absolutely taking us back into the days of imperialism and colonialism,\u201d Holmes said. \u201cWe have no right to Greenland. They are allies of our country, and we have been working with them for decades on mutual security and trade. It\u2019s ridiculous to even talk about this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outside the New York Public Library on 42nd St., about 300 protesters gathered later in the day, chanting and holding signs with messages including: \u201cGrow a Spine, Congress!\u201d \u201cStop ICE Terror\u201d and \u201cRenee Nicole Good wasn\u2019t a criminal, but the President is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are a force that grows in number. We all have to come out. Not just a few. We all have to be there,\u201d said Anna Garcia, 54, a professor of dance at The New School who left work to be at the protest. \u201cBeing in front of the public library is perfect. We are defending knowledge, freedom and education. This is exactly where we should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always good for people to come out,\u201d said Evan Parris, 19, from Long Island. \u201cEveryone should reflect on what happened to Renee Good. It should cause a panic. An uproar.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fate of the world is on the line,\u201d said Don Ostro, 72, a retired teacher. \u201cDonald Trump and his regime are making war on the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we are the many. They are the few,\u201d he added. We have to stand up and fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a request. This is a rupture. This is a protest and a promise,\u201d Free America says on its website.<\/p>\n

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, the NYPD was reporting there had been no arrests connected to the protests.<\/p>\n

Event organizers encouraged students to leave their classrooms to join marchers objecting to the Trump administration\u2019s first year in office, which has included federal law enforcement being deployed in U.S. cities<\/a> and unprovoked aggression toward<\/a> longstanding allies.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s March Managing Director Tamika Middleton helped organize Tuesday\u2019s protest. She said participants want to send a message \u201cthat we withdraw our consent from what is happening\u201d within the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will withhold our labor, our participation, and our consent,\u201d Free America\u2019s website says. \u201cA free America begins the moment we refuse to cooperate. \u2026 In the face of fascism, we will be ungovernable,\u201d the group declares.<\/p>\n

President Trump celebrated the state of the nation with a social media post declaring \u201cAmerica is back!!!<\/a>\u201d late Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
