If there are any drought conditions left in New York State, that\u2019s about to change! A massive amount of rain has been predicted by the National Weather Service for areas near the Great Lakes, including Buffalo, New York.<\/p>\n

As we approach the end of October, many of us are starting to think about the potential for snow. However, this upcoming weather system, fueled by Lake Erie, will bring heavy rain \u2014 thankfully, not snow.<\/p>\n

Get Ready For Heavy Rain<\/p>\n

According to a recent post from the National Weather Service office in Buffalo, lake-effect rain could produce more than one or two inches of rainfall in areas under the heaviest downpours.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve often heard that one inch of rain equals roughly ten inches of snow. That means a quick burst of this lake-effect rain could translate to more than 20 inches of snow if it were cold enough \u2014 all in less than 24 hours!<\/p>\n

More Than We Can Handle?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m ready for snow, but 20 inches in one day is the kind of nightmare Buffalo has seen before<\/a>. Here in Western New York, we\u2019re prepared for just about anything. This time around, make sure your drains and gutters are clear and ready for significant rainfall if the weather and wind line up just right over your neighborhood.<\/p>\n

The good news? We\u2019re expected to see drier conditions by the weekend \u2014 perfect for those still planning homecoming activities or outdoor events.<\/p>\n
