{"id":107466,"date":"2026-01-21T18:01:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T18:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/107466\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T18:01:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T18:01:08","slug":"6-inches-of-snow-possible-in-nyc-on-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/107466\/","title":{"rendered":"6+ inches of snow possible in NYC on Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 6 inches of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/snow-forecast-new-york-weekend-weather\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">snow could fall in New York City<\/a> and surrounding areas from Sunday into next Monday, according to weather forecasters.<\/p>\n<p>The snow could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/weather\/how-much-snow-will-we-get-what-we-know-about-sundays-major-winter-storm-so-far\/6446785\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">begin falling Saturday night<\/a>, then continue piling up through Sunday and into early Monday morning, National Weather Service meteorologists said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe latest\u2026probability for <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=OKX&amp;issuedby=OKX&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1&amp;highlight=off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">greater than 6 inches of snow<\/a> ranges from about 50 percent inland to about 70 percent over the NYC metro and coast,\u201d forecasters wrote. \u201cThese probabilities have increased over the last several cycles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city could receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5ny.com\/news\/weather-nyc-snow-storm-winter-weekend-forecast-totals-ny-nj-ct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">up to 10 inches of snow<\/a>, according to WNYW. However, forecasters cautioned that because the storm is still several days away, the snowfall totals could change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line here is that an impactful winter storm is possible Sunday into Monday,\u201d NWS forecasters wrote. \u201cThe storm track, timing and snow amount details will begin coming into focus over the next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The snow will follow a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/01\/20\/new-york-city-cold-snap-temperatures-wind-chill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">brutally cold weekend<\/a>, in which temperatures are expected to remain below 20 degrees from Friday night into Monday morning, with wind chills staying between 0 degrees and 10 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday night, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/us\/new-york\/10021\/daily-weather-forecast\/349727\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">chance of snow<\/a> is about 50%, and it will rise to 70% throughout Sunday before dropping back to 50% on Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the second straight weekend with snowfall in New York City and surrounding areas.
