Police arrested a Manhattan man Wednesday evening for a violent attack on two teenagers at a Bronx subway station this week, NYPD officials said.<\/p>\n
Richard Shaw, 32, is facing charges of attempted murder, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, harassment and other crimes in connection with the incident, authorities said.<\/p>\n
According to the NYPD, Shaw approached an 18-year-old boy on the northbound 2 train platform at the Prospect Avenue stop in Longwood around 6:15 p.m. Monday. Police said a fight ensued, with Shaw pulling out a knife and stabbing the teen several times.<\/p>\n
Shaw then allegedly walked up to a 19-year-old bystander calling 911 and attempted to take his phone while punching and kicking his face and head. Police said Shaw fled the scene.<\/p>\n
First responders took the 18-year-old to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, while the older teen refused medical attention, according to officials. Police said Shaw and the teens did not know each other.<\/p>\n
Officers arrested Shaw on Wednesday afternoon in the 49th Precinct in the Bronx, authorities said. Police said he lives in an East Harlem building run by a nonprofit that provides housing and services for people with substance use issues.<\/p>\n
Information for Shaw\u2019s attorney was not immediately available Thursday morning as he awaited his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.<\/p>\n
NYPD data<\/a> shows citywide transit crime is up by more than a dozen incidents through Jan. 18, compared to the same period last year. Police are also investigating three other assaults at subway stations<\/a> over the holiday weekend, in Brooklyn and Queens.<\/p>\n
