This weekend’s storm is now forecasted to bring more than a foot of snow in areas along the East Coast, including the New York City metro area — prompting some major airlines to already begin preparations for anyone planning to travel. <\/p>\n
Many of the big airlines, including Delta, United and JetBlue, have announced they would drop change fees on certain flights expected to be impact by the approaching storm. (As of Thursday afternoon, the Northeast will get hit hardest Sunday afternoon and evening, with residual light snow Monday.<\/a>)<\/p>\n New York City Emergency Management warned flyers they could start seeing delays or cancellations as early as Friday. <\/p>\n “Even flights outside the Northeast may be impacted due to aircraft and crew being out of position,” the department posted on X Thursday. “Check with your airline before leaving for the airport, sign up for flight alerts, and monitor airport and transit updates.”<\/p>\n Flight delays and cancellations are possible across the region starting tomorrow and continuing through the storm. <\/p>\n Severe winter weather can affect airport operations, deicing, runway conditions, crew availability, and air traffic nationwide. Flyers are able to change their bookings with no fees.<\/p>\n United Airlines<\/a> issued a travel alert saying 35 airports across the South and the Northeast may be impacted, and is also waiving fees and fare differences for rescheduled trips.<\/p>\n
