Don\u2019t forget that pets and service animals require special care during severe weather. For residences with functioning fireplaces, keep an ample supply of wood. Utilize portable electric space heaters. Keep a fire extinguisher on hand.Install and check batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.Have a snow shovel and rock salt on hand to melt ice on sidewalks and stairs.Let faucets drip a little to help prevent freezing.Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.Winterizing the carCheck the antifreeze, oil and windshield washer fluid levels. Check the tread on the tires.Purchase a windshield scraper. Assemble an emergency supply kit for the car. Consider sleeping bags, extra newspapers for insulation, plastic bags for sanitation, a sack of kitty litter for tire traction and booster cables.
