STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Shoppers are rushing to stores on Staten Island for last minute necessities in anticipation of a major snowstorm this weekend.<\/p>\n

Demand for storm supplies has been booming in recent days at the Lowe\u2019s Home Improvement store on Forest Avenue in Mariners Harbor.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been really, really busy,\u201d Jose Florimon, an assistant manager at Lowe\u2019s, said on Friday morning. \u201cTraffic has picked up as of past two, three days due to the weather.\u201d<\/p>\n

People are stocking up on \u201call of the essentials,\u201d the manager said. <\/p>\n

Lowe\u2019s in Mariners Harbor had shovels and snowblowers in stock as of Friday morning, but temporarily was out of salt.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were fully in stock yesterday,\u201d Florimon said, referring to salt. \u201cWe\u2019re currently waiting for a delivery, but as you know, with the storm coming, everyone is going crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The manager said salt likely would be back on store shelves either later on Friday or Saturday.<\/p>\n

Shoppers also are preparing by purchasing bottled water, fuel for generators and wiper fluid for cars.<\/p>\n

Business appeared to be brisk at the ShopRite at 985 Richmond Ave. in Graniteville on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Necessities such as bread, milk and eggs appeared to be selling quickly based on partially empty shelves<\/p>\n

Shopper Lawrence Scott of West Brighton said, \u201cMilk seems kind of scarce.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that \u201cpeople seem like they\u2019re hunkering down for this storm.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she headed into ShopRite on Friday morning, Kristine Van Manen of Bulls Head said she wasn\u2019t stocking up on anything special to weather the storm.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just don\u2019t want to go out when it\u2019s snowing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
