Stephanie Augello\/SOPA Images\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>But the union held firm on other demands for pay differentials and staffing, hinting the two sides still have ground at the bargaining table before the largest nurses strike in the city\u2019s history ends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMount Sinai negotiators said they would commit to a comprehensive analysis of NYSNA\u2019s proposals, stressing the complexity of this process because of the numerous economic proposals that are impacted by the wage increases,\u201d hospital officials said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHospital negotiators also made clear that any counterproposal would be influenced by the fallout of the ongoing strike and significant employer expenses and lost revenue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The strike entered its 11th day Friday. Stephanie Augello\/SOPA Images\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 15,000 nurses with Mount Sinai, Montefiore Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian entered the strike\u2019s 11th day Friday amid a bitter labor showdown over pay, benefits, staffing and workplace safety.<\/p>\n<p>The two sides <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/21\/us-news\/nurses-and-nyc-hospitals-head-back-to-bargaining-table-but-strike-rages-on-for-now\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">returned to the bargaining table <\/a>Thursday after encouragement from Gov. Hochul and Mayor Mamdani, who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/20\/us-news\/sanders-and-mamdani-protest-with-striking-nyc-nurses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">boosted the nurses\u2019 cause<\/a> alongside his socialist hero Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.<\/p>\n<p>The contracts are being separately negotiated with the hospital systems.<\/p>\n<p>The nurses want staffing changes and moves on safety. Stephanie Augello\/SOPA Images\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>A nurse\u2019s union representative previously said Mount Sinai nurses originally proposed 10% increases each year for three years but have since backed off.<\/p>\n<p>The union contended all three hospital systems have demanded cuts to the nurses\u2019 health benefits \u2014 an assertion that Mount Sinai officials denied. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs nurses have said from the beginning,\u00a0and as\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0shown at the bargaining table,\u00a0we are\u00a0willing\u00a0to\u00a0negotiate on\u00a0wages,\u00a0but we are not willing to cut corners on patient and nurse safety,\u201d a statement from the union read. \u201cNurses\u00a0remain ready to bargain in good faith every day until we\u00a0settle fair contracts that protect patients and nurses.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It\u2019s a smaller price to pay.
