{"id":110462,"date":"2026-01-23T23:19:17","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T23:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/110462\/"},"modified":"2026-01-23T23:19:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T23:19:17","slug":"north-country-school-district-under-significant-fiscal-stress-says-nys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/110462\/","title":{"rendered":"North Country school district under \u2018significant fiscal stress,\u2019 says NYS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">ALBANY, New York (WWNY) &#8211; The state says a North Country school district has one of the highest rates of fiscal stress in New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The state Comptroller\u2019s Office on Thursday released a list of 31 districts under fiscal stress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Harrisville Central School District was one of two districts in the state classified as being in \u201csignificant fiscal stress,\u201d the highest category on the list. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The only other district in New York with the same level of stress is in Westchester County. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">What does that mean? The stress score is based on several factors: year-end fund balance, operating deficits, cash position, and reliance on short-term debt for cash flow. The higher the score, the more severe the level of stress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Two other school districts in the North County made the list, Ogdensburg and Salmon River. They\u2019re both considered to be \u201csusceptible to fiscal stress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The information is based on the districts\u2019 fiscal year that ended last June. <\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WWNY.
