News 12 visited the Stop & Shop in Co-op City, where customers filled their carts with groceries ahead of the forecasted weather.<\/p>\n
A cart full of essentials was the goal for Denise Cartagena, who said she wanted to be prepared for the next few days.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got chicken, shrimp, some ground beef \u2014 making some ziti,\u201d Cartagena said.<\/p>\n
Cartagena said once the storm arrives, she expects to remain indoors and wanted to make sure her family has everything they need.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just want to make sure my family has everything they need,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Stop & Shop management said it is also preparing by keeping shelves stocked and staff ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt all our stores, we have everybody on call so we can continue to get product into the store,\u201d said Daniel Wolk, communications manager for Stop & Shop. \u201cWhen customers come here, they know they can get what they need.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jeanette Viera also joined the crowd, but not to shop for herself.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m picking up some provisions for my employees,\u201d Viera said.<\/p>\n
Viera said her employees work 12-hour shifts and expect a long weekend ahead.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhoever\u2019s working overnight on Saturday will most likely have to stay on Sunday,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
