Police unloaded three bullets killing an \u201caggressive\u201d raccoon after the animal charged at people on a Queens boardwalk this week, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Cops showed up at Beach 121st Street and Ocean Promenade in Belle Harbor around 9 a.m. Thursday after receiving a call of a \u201cvicious animal\u201d there, according to police.<\/p>\n
Police had been called to the boardwalk because of an aggressive raccoon, cops said.<\/p>\n
When they arrived, they attempted to chase it away but saw it lunge at people aggressively.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile attempting to guide the racoon to a safe location, the animal suddenly charges towards a group of people in an aggressive manner,\u201d the NYPD said in an email. \u201cAn officer discharged his firearm, striking the animal.\u201d<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t immediately clear if the city\u2019s Animal Care Centers would test the raccoon for rabies. Aggressive behavior in animals, however, is a sign of the viral infection that\u2019s easily transferable to pets and humans through a bite.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD\u2019s Force Investigation Division,\u201d cops said. <\/p>\n
