STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 The weather might inspire images Jon Snow trudging beyond the Wall in \u201cGame of Thrones,\u201d but New York City\u2019s Sanitation Department is hard at work making sure the roads are clear. <\/p>\n
As of 10:30 a.m., these major roadways on Staten Island have been plowed within the last hour: <\/p>\n
Richmond Avenue Hylan Boulevard Arthur Kill RoadTodt Hill RoadSlosson AvenueMost of Clove Road (The unplowed portions were plowed in the last one to three hours)Richmond TerraceBay StreetMost of Amboy Road (The unplowed portions were plowed in the last one to three hours)Korean War Veterans Parkway West Shore ExpresswayStaten Island Expressway <\/p>\n
\u201cPlows operate when the streets have at least 2 inches of snow on them. The plow is raised a bit off the ground to avoid \u2018tripping\u2019 on things like manhole covers,\u201d A Sanitation spokesperson explained.<\/p>\n
The plows can be monitored on the department\u2019s PlowNYC map, which can be found at plownyc.cityofnewyork.us\/plownyc\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n Without meeting the 2-inch minimum, the plows \u2014 and PlowNYC, the city\u2019s plow map \u2014 do not deploy. This standard has been held for roughly a decade, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n More than 700 salt spreaders are moving through New York City streets to combat the slippery, snowy conditions.<\/p>\n PlowNYC does not show salt spreaders on its map.<\/p>\n
