STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 As an ongoing storm hits New York City \u2014 bringing up to 12 inches of snow and frigid temperatures \u2014 officials are opening additional warming centers.<\/p>\n
Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the decision in a social media post on Sunday morning<\/a>, saying that two centers in each borough would be open at least through Monday evening.<\/p>\n \u201cAs dangerously cold temperatures move through New York, we have opened 10 warming centers across all five boroughs to provide safe, heated indoor spaces for New Yorkers in need,\u201d the mayor wrote on social media.<\/p>\n On Staten Island, the two locations activated as warming centers are Curtis High School, located at 105 Hamilton Ave. in St. George, and New Dorp High School, located at 465 New Dorp Lane. <\/p>\n In a press briefing on Sunday afternoon, Mamdani said that the warming centers would also provide warm meals to those who arrive.<\/p>\n Other locations include Midwood High School, located at 2839 Bedford Ave. in Brooklyn and Jamaica Campus, located at 167-01 Gothic Drive in Queens.<\/p>\n A full list of warming centers is available online<\/a> at the 311 website, or by calling 311. <\/p>\n
