STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Staten Islanders on Monday morning are digging out of a major winter snowstorm that dumped about a foot of snow on the borough over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Traveling by public transit, on foot or in a car is challenging due to the sheer volume of snow.<\/p>\n

Classes for public schools will be remote on Monday.<\/p>\n

Notify NYC is warning that \u201croadways and walkways will remain icy and slippery with some occasional light snow and flurries through this morning. Some locations have received spotty light freezing drizzle as well. Exercise caution if traveling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Staten Island Railway trains are running with delays in both directions, according to the MTA.<\/p>\n

The MTA is warning about significant delays throughout its transit system.<\/p>\n

\u201cA winter storm may impact service on subways, buses, the LIRR, Metro-North, and Access-A-Ride,\u201d according to a message on the MTA website. \u201cAvoid unnecessary travel. If you must travel, use extra caution and check service status before you go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many cars parked on streets and in driveways are covered with mounds of snow. Although the Sanitation Department has plowed all city streets, mounds of snow remain along the sides of most roadways.<\/p>\n

Emergency snow shovelers are working on Monday to clear snow from bus stops, crosswalks and fire hydrants, according to the Sanitation Department.<\/p>\n

Salting and plowing efforts are continuing on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

Sanitation is reminding property owners that they need to clear their sidewalks and not push snow into the street or bike lanes.<\/p>\n

While trash may be put out on the normal schedule, snow removal will be the priority.<\/p>\n

Below freezing temperatures on Monday<\/p>\n

The latest forecast indicates that slippery conditions and below-freezing temperatures will persist across Staten Island Monday, with minimal ice and snow melt expected throughout the day.<\/a><\/p>\n

The National Weather Service has discontinued the Winter Storm Warning but cautions residents about hazardous travel conditions due to icy roadways and walkways.<\/p>\n

Temperatures on Monday will struggle to reach the freezing mark, with wind chills in the middle to upper teens<\/p>\n
