(Hint: Not anytime soon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZCW24OPPYJCDZM7KBDWDK3QNKA\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 New York City residents hoping for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/ny-weather-foot-of-snow-causes-transit-delays.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/ny-weather-foot-of-snow-causes-transit-delays.html\">quick melt of the recent snowfall<\/a> will need to bundle up for the long haul because the winter wonderland is here to stay, according to AccuWeather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LOL5VGZEFFEJPESMENJSX6O4U4\">\u201cUnfortunately, the snow that has fallen is going to hang around for at least the end of the month into early February,\u201d said AccuWeather Meteorologist Alyssa Glenny in an interview Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2JH2CDCZ7ZHUVCJIPY5OUKMPO4\">She explained that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/ny-weather-frigid-temperatures-and-icy-conditions-continue-for-staten-island.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/ny-weather-frigid-temperatures-and-icy-conditions-continue-for-staten-island.html\">a prolonged stretch of frigid temperatures<\/a> will effectively preserve the current snowpack, with little chance of any melting in the immediate future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LLQ6BF3V5ZAMZAWWUCJSPRM4LM\">\u201cA lot of the daytime highs are not going to exceed even the mid-20s for the peak temperatures through the end of the week,\u201d Glenny said. \u201cThe warmest temperature that we might see is early next week, and that\u2019s right around freezing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GR3QBBTLONDODKGTBV5UUYW2R4\">Residents of Staten Island and surrounding areas should prepare for particularly brutal conditions toward the end of the week, with low temperatures in the single digits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"37WPKJAVXFFDZBTGBBPK57LSHA\">\u201cThe lowest temperature that we\u2019re seeing this week looks to be Friday night. Wednesday night\u2019s low rivals it pretty closely,\u201d Glenny noted. \u201cWe have a low of 6 degrees Friday night, so definitely cold into the single digits from Wednesday night into Friday night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SVJSLTFMBVB6XFEPYIMBDMU6QM\">A break from the winter chill is not in the immediate future, as the meteorologist confirmed there will be no melting and refreezing pattern in the short term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"N42GP2A62JCDROXZWIT3CTMWV4\">\u201cNo melting will occur for at least a week and a half,\u201d Glenny stated. \u201cAs we head into the first or second week of February, there could be a chance. But at this time, everything unfortunately looks to remain below freezing for the time being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Next snow?<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HNWPL3X7XBBPNCRUTYXZLZCTVI\">While the workweek appears clear of additional snowfall, residents should stay weather-aware heading into the weekend, Glenny advised. AccuWeather is tracking a potential coastal storm that could bring fresh snow and significant wind to Staten Island.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"D4ICKO3TJFG4FLTU7TCGXJP72E\">\u201cWe are monitoring the potential for a coastal storm this weekend,\u201d Glenny warned. \u201cThe details are still being ironed out, but it does look like there could be a storm that comes up from the southeast and brings additional snow and potential wind impacts to the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6BIZJXN4BVGFXJD57IEZG3IKNY\">Unlike the recent weekend storm, this approaching system could bring with it an increased wind speed. \u201cIt\u2019s likely that this storm could be windier than what we noticed with this weekend coastal storm that we had. There\u2019s a higher potential for gusts to exceed 30 or more,\u201d Glenny explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PKXO5J6XHNBLNO2673I3U77OCU\">Even before the potential weekend storm arrives, residents should be cautious about existing conditions as breezy weather could create hazards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TAMGRB6LHFEH5KJOY4IXSPZ6DI\">\u201cOver the upcoming days, it will still be pretty breezy around Staten Island.
