\u200bAn emotionally disturbed 22-year-old man was shot and wounded by NYPD cops in Queens Monday morning after lunging at them with a large kitchen knife, police<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

A 911 call was made at 10:25 a.m. by a relative who said the man has \u201ca history of mental health issues and was throwing glass against the wall,\u201d according to NYPD Assistant Chief Chris McIntosh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When officers from the 107th Precinct got to the home on Parsons Blvd. near 84th Drive in Jamaica, the 911 caller answered the door and the 22-year-old man \u201cretrieved a large kitchen knife and began to advance toward the officers,\u201d McIntosh said.<\/p>\n

A family member tried to grab the man but could not contain him and he moved toward the officers, still armed and refusing to obey numerous commands to drop the knife, McIntosh said.<\/p>\n

As the suspect moved from the kitchen to the living room, the officers shut a glass door \u201cin an attempt to isolate him,\u201d McIntosh said.<\/p>\n

The officers continued their commands for him to drop the weapon, McIntosh said, but the suspect pushed through the closed door, prompting the officers to fire.<\/p>\n

McIntosh wouldn\u2019t say how many officers used their guns, how many shots were fired or where the suspect was hit, though he did say they used a torniquest on the suspect until medics got there.<\/p>\n

The suspect was taken to Jamaica Hospital, underwent surgery and is expected to survive.<\/p>\n

The officers were taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center to be treated for ringing in the ears.<\/p>\n

The shooting is the third this year involving NYPD officers.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 9, officers shot and killed Michael Lynch, a former cop and FDNY lieutenant, during a stand off at Methodist Hospital<\/a> in Brooklyn. His family said Lynch had no mental health issues and questioned the police account of the clash. Cops say Lynch was armed with a makshift weapon fashioned from a busted porcelain toilet seat and had cut himself and threatened others, refusing to drop the weapon as he moved toward police.<\/p>\n

Later the same night<\/a>, Dmitry Zass, 37, was shot dead when police said he advanced on officers while armed with what turned out to be a fake pistol in the West Village.
