Lingering effects from a storm that dropped more than a foot of snow in many parts of New Jersey<\/a> and surrounding areas have led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights on Monday and Tuesday at Newark Liberty and other nearby airports. <\/p>\n

Airlines are playing catch-up on Monday with 4,213 flights into and out of the United States canceled, following a storm that brought much of the nation to a standstill on Sunday. <\/p>\n

While there are more than 1,100 cancellations at the four major area airports serving the New York and New Jersey region on Monday, so far only a handful of flights are grounded on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

According to FlightAware.com<\/a>, the scheduled arrivals and departures cancelled as of 10:30 a.m. on Monday are:<\/p>\n

Newark Liberty International Airport: 445 on Monday, 2 on TuesdayJohn F. Kennedy International Airport: 468 on Monday, 1 on TuesdayLaGuardia Airport: 430 on Monday, 3 on TuesdayPhiladelphia International Airport: 147 on Monday, 2 on Tuesday<\/p>\n

American Airlines has the most canceled flights in the nation on Monday \u2014 835. United Airlines, the largest carrier at Newark Liberty, has grounded 282 flights. <\/p>\n

There is no snow in the forecast for the rest of the week but bitterly cold temperatures with highs only in the teens and 20s are expected to stick around for days. <\/p>\n

NJ Transit says rail service will resume service at noon on a severe weather schedule on the Northeast Corridor, Raritan Valley, North Jersey Coast and Atlantic City lines. <\/p>\n

Light rail service is again running.
