(Ray Collins &#8211; WPA Pool\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>The bestselling author and royal editor for London\u2019s Evening Standard has spent decades uncovering behind-the-scenes stories from the House of Windsor.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News Digital reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment. A spokesperson previously told Fox News Digital, &#8220;We don&#8217;t comment on such books.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Philip burst from a cottage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/world\/personalities\/queen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the queen<\/a> on his heels, hurling a tennis racket and shoes,&#8221; Jobson wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/queen-elizabeth-prince-philip-australia.jpg\" alt=\"Queen Elizabeth holding an umbrella sitting next to Prince Philip in Australia.\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visiting Australia in 1954. (Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Then she spotted the camera crew, grabbed him, dragged him inside and slammed the door. The Commonwealth Film Unit had come for a staged royal moment with koalas. Instead, they stood frozen. Soundman Loch Townsend coolly exposed the film and handed the reel to the queen\u2019s panicking press secretary, who took it with relief.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>WATCH: PRINCE PHILIP WAS AN OUTSPOKEN ROYAL WHO NEVER HELD BACK: BUTLER<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Later, Elizabeth emerged from the cottage, this time smiling,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;\u2018Sorry for the little interlude,\u2019 she said. \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/entertainment\/events\/marriage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">It happens in every marriage<\/a>. At times, Philip would call the queen a \u2018bloody fool.\u2019 As I know personally, you never wanted to get on the wrong side of embarrassing the queen. (Max Mumby\/Indigo\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The queen came out and shouted at [Philip] to come back,&#8221; the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Prince-Philip-Biography-Ingrid-Seward\/dp\/1982129751\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#8220;Prince Philip Revealed&#8221;<\/a> claimed. &#8220;She then grabbed him and dragged him back inside. Of course, you can imagine how this frumpy press secretary at the time was absolutely terrified.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He ran over to the crew and said, \u2018We cannot have this on film. This is a disaster. Give me your film. At the time, the future Duke of Edinburgh had only &#8220;pennies to his name,&#8221; Jobson wrote. Instead, she was ready with a withering but witty reply. (Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Royal experts say Elizabeth and Philip\u2019s marriage had its share of strain, but humor and loyalty always won out \u2014 and made it last.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My personal favorite story is a brilliant prank Prince Philip pulled in 2003,&#8221; Fordwich said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He dressed as a Grenadier Guard for a military review at Windsor Castle. Even at his age, he could still make Queen Elizabeth giggle like a schoolgirl. That moment showed his cheeky side \u2014 his knack for making her laugh \u2014 and their unique bond. They gave each other space to explore their different interests. As Prince Philip once said, the essential ingredient in any happy marriage is tolerance.
