{"id":113793,"date":"2026-01-27T12:57:25","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T12:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/113793\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T12:57:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T12:57:25","slug":"staten-island-weather-today-snow-slush-create-dangerous-commute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/113793\/","title":{"rendered":"Staten Island weather today: Snow, slush create dangerous commute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KDMBQRXOGRFX7HG2WCONOH4SMQ\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Staten Islanders heading to work and school on Tuesday are facing challenges that include snow, slush and dangerously cold temperatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KP7E5SO2UVEJLHAMS6AFB7645U\">Snow, slush and ice continue to pose threats to drivers and people walking to bus stops and train stations throughout the borough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"47SN6KV54BHITKBBWT7A2G4VMU\">With temperatures in the teens, there\u2019s no chance of a melt during the morning rush hour. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MWAXDD44HNEJVNYZS7FQIDS4JY\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/ny-weather-dangerous-wind-chills-tonight-on-staten-island.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2026\/01\/ny-weather-dangerous-wind-chills-tonight-on-staten-island.html\">Cold Weather Advisory<\/a> has been issued for Staten Island from midnight Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday, with wind chills expected to drop to 5 to 8 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"N7UNXZ6FHFDSNE3RYC2Z7HNVOE\">The unseasonably cold arctic air will intensify Tuesday evening as another reinforcing shot moves into the region. Wind chills will fall below zero after midnight, creating potentially dangerous conditions for anyone outdoors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HCGJ5BJOKBBODCN5S3OXWCKIE4\">The National Weather Service warns that these extreme cold conditions can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4T4GGM6DRBEZDB2Q732EL6GRXY\">Residents should limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and check on vulnerable neighbors. The cold snap will continue throughout the week, with Wednesday\u2019s high temperatures struggling to reach the mid-20s despite sunny skies. West winds of 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25-30 mph will make it feel significantly colder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QBTP5JML3JAMDAYI225ADOMRMU\">Thursday and Friday will bring even colder conditions to New York City, with the National Weather Service indicating that \u201cperhaps the coldest of the cold air reinforcements\u201d will arrive during this period.
