\n\tThe king is dead. Long live the \u201cKing of Fucking Everything\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFinnish director and screenwriter Tiina Lymi<\/a> will continue her hit show \u201cQueen of Fucking Everything<\/a>\u201d in an upcoming feature film dedicated to one of its side characters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI already have a script,\u201d she told Variety at Goteborg, where \u201cQueen\u201d is nominated for the Nordic Series Script Award<\/a>. Lymi wrote it with Juha Lehtola of East Film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s not at all what people might expect. It\u2019s about taking responsibility for your own actions and about guilt. It\u2019s about a man who vanished. When a woman is insecure, she hurts only herself \u2013 a man in the same position hurts everybody around him. He hasn\u2019t grown up and he\u2019s obviously not really a \u2018King of Fucking Everything\u2019. Once again, it\u2019s an ironic title,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMaking this film is interesting and I can only do things that interest me. I have a very personal relationship with the \u2018guy who leaves\u2019. I\u2019ve always wondered: What the hell? How can people do that, how can they leave their children? My father disappeared, and I always wondered what happened to him. My mother once said: \u2018He\u2019s not bad. He\u2019s just weak\u2019.\u201d That sentence has bothered me for, like, 40 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tApart from the film, a second season of \u201cQueen\u201d \u2013 about a real estate agent Linda who turns to crime after her husband suddenly disappears, leaving her drowning in debt \u2013 is also moving forward. The show recently won five Golden Venla awards in its native Finland, including best drama series and best screenplay and director for Lymi.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t have an explanation for why people seem to love the show, but the main thing is that I never do something that already exists. Also, all the characters are relatable, even though they are crazy and terrible. Nobody is just good or bad. Everyone is both, like we all are.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added: \u201cWhen we look at Instagram and see other people\u2019s gorgeous lives, we feel so small. \u2018I love my hobby, I love my family, I have so many friends.\u2019 And you are at home, alone and feeling like shit. But if you look behind these pictures, it\u2019s not the truth. There\u2019s a lot going on behind the scenes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tLymi didn\u2019t want to create a show that pretends to be something it\u2019s not. \u201cIt\u2019s not a Finnish series trying to be American, or another\u00a0Nordic\u00a0something,\u201d she said.\u00a0Nordic Noir\u00a0is still the dominant genre in the region. \u201cIt\u2019s a hybrid of drama with some thriller elements and pitch-black humor. I had a clear vision and followed it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLinda \u2013 played by Laura Malmivaara \u2013 isn\u2019t the only fascinating female character Lymi has recently delivered, with her box-office smash \u201cStormskerry Maja,\u201d<\/a> set in the 19th\u00a0century, further cementing her transition from acting to directing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs a writer and director, I don\u2019t just write about women: I write about people. But, as women, we do carry a lot of weight. Even the adjectives used to describe women are totally different. If a man is bossy, he\u2019s \u2018determined.\u2019 A woman is a \u2018difficult\u2019 bitch,\u201d she stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are being observed, and we are being judged. Especially if you succeed \u2013 then you\u2019re a witch. And witches get burned.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tInterestingly enough, Lymi will soon move on to another TV series that she wrote, under working title \u201cThe Punisher,\u201d and another female character.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s in her fifties, a lovely person who gives everything to others and doesn\u2019t take anything for herself. And then\u2026 she stops doing it. There will be blood,\u201d teased Lymi.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe has a small, beautiful world. It all happens in the countryside. She\u2019s a makeup artist and a hairdresser who dreams of becoming a nail artist. She wants to do beautiful nails adorned with palm trees and diamonds. But there\u2019s a bad man in the village who destroys everything. And she stops being nice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStill, Lymi wouldn\u2019t say that rage is always the answer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI do not wish to be aggressive, but my characters are, for some reason,\u201d she laughed. \u201cExcept for Maja. She refuses to hate anyone and I admire her very much. She\u2019s my kind of heroine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs women, especially if you\u2019re a boss, you have two options: You can be a silly girl or a mother. We don\u2019t wear corsets anymore, but we sort of do. We operate within a very narrow space.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn the Nordic countries, we have laws that say that everybody is equal, women should be paid as much as men, and you can\u2019t beat your wife. But it\u2019s a very small corner of the world and we haven\u2019t had those laws for long. If we don\u2019t talk about it, they can vanish again.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The king is dead.
