MILL BASIN, Brooklyn (PIX11) \u2014 A new public school<\/a> could be coming to Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s builder, the School Construction Authority, is scoping out a vacant lot and parking area at 7001 Avenue U for a possible high school<\/a>.\u00a0It would occupy the entire block from East 70th to East 71st Street, between Veterans Avenue and Avenue U.<\/p>\n

The school would serve 676 students, significantly alleviating the overcrowding at nearby schools<\/a> like Madison, Midwood and Edward R. Murrow, a spokesperson for SCA told PIX11 News.<\/p>\n

The location was presented to the local community board last week and is open for public comment<\/a> until Feb. 25. The SCA will take the site to the City Council for approval, likely later this year, before it becomes a New York City Public School.<\/p>\n

New York City opened seven new schools this year<\/a> for over 4,000 students in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island.<\/p>\n
