Stephenson Boulevard has reopened in New Rochelle after repairs were finished late Monday night on a water main break near Palmer Avenue.<\/p>\n
The break happened late Monday morning and left part of the road closed while crews worked in frigid conditions.<\/p>\n
Officials told News 12 the cold weather likely contributed to the break, saying this is the time of year when these issues happen more often.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ground as it freezes, is swelling. It’s basically squeezing the pipes,\u201d said Sophia Salis with Veolia New York.<\/p>\n

Officials also said they receive more calls for pipes bursting inside homes during extreme cold.<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep the cabinets open so the piping underneath can get some of the ambient warmth of the house and just keep their faucet on a light trickle,\u201d Salis said.<\/p>\n
Some were without water, and others nearby briefly saw discolored water.<\/p>\n
