Kathy Hochul and courtesy of BNYDC<\/p>\n<p>A cutting-edge materials science company is bringing a major new research operation to Brooklyn \u2014 and marking a forest for New York State in the process.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Governor Kathy Hochul announced this week that Radical AI, a fast-growing materials science laboratory at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklynpaper.com\/?s=brooklyn+navy+yard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brooklyn Navy Yard<\/a>. The company plans to renovate and repurpose space in Building 20, transforming it into a state-of-the-art headquarters and AI-driven research facility capable of running roughly 100 experiments per day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-237245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/bny2.webp.jpeg\" alt=\"Racical AI\" width=\"694\" height=\"462\"  \/>Radical AI\u2019s newly furnished space will be housed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard\u2019s Building 20. The project will create over 100 new jobs.Photo courtesy of BNYDC<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew York is leading the nation in turning cutting-edge research into real-world innovation and good-paying jobs,\u201d Hochul said. \u201cRadical AI\u2019s decision to establish the state\u2019s first fully autonomous materials science laboratory at the Brooklyn Navy Yard strengthens our position as a global hub for artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and deep-tech research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The $4 million project is expected to create 115 new high-paying jobs in materials science, artificial intelligence and advanced engineering. The expansion is supported by up to $2 million in performance-based tax credits through Empire State Development\u2019s Excelsior Jobs Program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said the project highlights the strength of New York City\u2019s innovation ecosystem.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project brings together artificial intelligence, advanced research, and high-quality job creation in a field that touches nearly every sector of the global economy,\u201d Knight said. \u201cWith support from Empire State Development, Radical AI is helping ensure that the next wave of materials discovery and commercialization happens right here in New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-237246\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/hochul-2.webp.jpeg\" alt=\"hochul\" width=\"700\" height=\"492\"  \/>This is not the first time Hochul has supported AI ventures, in Dec. 2025 she signed \u201cnation leading\u201d legislation in AI transparency and fairness.Photo by Mike Groll\/Office of Gov. Kathy Hochul<\/p>\n<p>Radical AI\u2019s autonomous laboratory combined AI, robotics and advanced chemistry to dramatically accelerate the traditionally slow process of materials discovery. The company\u2019s technology allows experiments to run continuously, capturing data that back into its AI models to improve future predictions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new space will be a \u201cfully outfitted, advanced materials science lab equipped with specialized tools, gas lines, robotics systems, updated safety and organizational layouts, and essential infrastructure upgrades.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Its purpose is to \u201cdiscover new inorganic materials through AI-driven experimentation and R&amp;D.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur new facility will run materials experiments at a pace and scale that traditional R&amp;D cannot match,\u201d said Radical AI CEO and co-founder Joseph Krause. \u201cOur mission is to compress decades of materials discovery into years or months, and we\u2019re grateful to ESD for backing that vision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company, founded in 2024, Radical AI has grown to employ over 30 scientists and engineers, with applications across various industries, including energy and transportation, as well as aerospace, infrastructure and defense.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-237244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/bny1.webp.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\"\/>As far back as September, the Brooklyn Navy Yard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklynpaper.com\/brooklyn-navy-yard-building-303\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> overhauls of multiple areas into \u201cdeep tech hubs.\u201dPhoto courtesy of BNYDC<\/p>\n<p>City and regional leaders said the expansion reflects New York City\u2019s ability to attract companies operating at the forefront of science and technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project will not only create high-paying jobs, but also strengthen New York City\u2019s position as a global center for AI-driven research and advanced manufacturing,\u201d said NYCREDC co-chair F\u00e9lix V. Matos Rodr\u00edguez, alongside co-chair William D. Rahm.<\/p>\n<p>Local lawmakers also praised the announcement. Westchester Assembly Member Steven Otis called the project \u201can example of the success of Governor Hochul\u2019s focus on job expansion in technology industries,\u201d adding that materials research is \u201cvital to our economic, environmental, and technology future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once complete, the autonomous lab will feature specialized equipment, robotics systems, upgraded safety infrastructure and high-throughput experimentation tools designed to accelerate materials discovery by hundreds of times compared to traditional methods.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2025, Hochul signed the RAISE Act, \u201cnation-leading legislation\u201d that would require \u201cAI frameworks for AI frontier models.\u201d In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-signs-nation-leading-legislation-require-ai-frameworks-ai-frontier-models\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">statement<\/a>, she said that \u201cNew York is once again leading the nation in setting a strong and sensible standard for frontier AI safety, holding the biggest developers accountable for their safety and transparency protocols.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Gov.
